Sake in Nagaoka, Niigata

This is a newly available sake course in the Niigata area.  Please book in a group of 2 people or more (1-person booking cannot be accepted unfortunately due to the logistics issue) and contact us at least two weeks in advance.

Highlights

  • Visit prominent breweries that are usually closed to public, check out where sake is brewed, and taste the breweries' premium sake

  • Visit Nagaoka, only 1.5 hours away from Tokyo by Shinkansen.  Nagaoka is close to Tokyo, but has amazing scenery and the largest number of sake breweries.  Niigata Prefecture has approximately 90 breweries (the best prefecture), and Nagaoka City has 16 breweries (the best city)

  • Combination of various brewery visits - from the large and famous ones (Kubota and Yoshinogawa) to new, innovative and exclusive ones (Aoi and Koshimeijo)

Day 1

  • Welcome to Niigata – “The train came out of the long tunnel into the snow country.”

  • Arriving and meeting us at Nagaoka Station

  • Welcome sake lecture with lunch

  • Visit Aoi Brewery, brewing Maison Aoi and Domaine Aoi <Exclusive sake experience>

  • Welcome dinner with local cuisine

Day 2

  • Asahi-shuzo Sake Brewery <Exclusive sake experience - off the usual tour course!>

  • Soba lunch with Kubota sake tasting

  • Making of Japanese paper

    • Visiting the Japanese paper manufacturer that makes Kubota sake label

    • Make your own sake label

  • Onsen ryokan and sake dinner

 

Day 3

  • Visit Koshimeijo Brewery <Exclusive sake experience>

  • Farewell lunch with local vegetables

  • Old Tochio town walk - famous for Tohu making

  • Farewell sake at Ponshukan

  • Farewell at Nagaoka Station
